An. 798, 16: Ἐπὶ τῶν δύο βραχέων φωνηέντων τοῦ ε καὶ ο ὅ τε Ἡρωδιανὸϲ καὶ ὁ τούτου πατὴρ Ἀπολλώνιοϲ ἐζήτηϲαν, τί τίνοϲ ἐϲτὶ βραχύτερον. Καὶ ὁ μὲν Ἀπολλώνιόϲ φηϲι τὸ ο εἶναι βραχύτερον τοῦ ε, ἀποδείξει τοιαύτῃ χρώμενοϲ. λέγει γὰρ ὅτι τὸ ῑ ἑκατέρῳ αὐτῶν προϲθεὶϲ ποιήϲειϲ δηλονότι δύο διφθόγγουϲ, καὶ ἡ μέν ἐϲτι μείζων ἡ τὸ ε ἔχουϲα, ἡ δὲ ἐλάϲϲων ἡ τὸ ο ἔχουϲα, ὡϲ εἶναι αὐτὴν καὶ βραχεῖαν ἐν τοῖϲ τόνοιϲ, ὡϲ ἐν τῷ Ὅημροι, Πρίαμοι καὶ τὰ ὅμοια.
