Ὁ πρῶτος εὑρὼν διατροφὴν πτωχῷ τέχνην πολλοὺς ἐποίησεν ἀθλίους· ἁπλοῦν γὰρ ἦν τὸν μὴ δυνάμενον ζῆν ἀλύπως ἀποθανεῖν. Χαλεπόν γε θυγάτηρ κτῆμα καὶ δυσδιάθετον. Δύναται τὸ πλουτεῖν καὶ φιλανθρώπους ποιεῖν. Χαῖρ' ὦ φίλη γῆ, διὰ χρόνου πολλοῦ ς' ἰδὼν ἀσπάζομαι· τουτὶ γὰρ οὐ πᾶσαν ποιῶ τὴν γῆν, ὅταν δὲ τοὐμὸν ἐσίδω χωρίον· τὸ γὰρ τρέφον με τοῦτ' ἐγὼ κρίνω θεόν. Ὡς δὲ τὴν ἄκραν κάμπτοντας ἡμᾶς εἶδον, ἐμβάντες ταχὺ ἀνηγάγοντο. Ἐκλελάκτικεν ὁ χρηστὸς ἡμῖν μοιχός, ἀλλ' ἀντάλλαγος. Δύ' οἰκίας φηλοῦν γερόντων, ὡς λέγεις, ἀβελτέρων. Καὶ θάλαττα βορβορώδης, ἣ τρέφει θύννον μέγαν. Καὶ χρυσολαβὲς καλὸν πάνυ ἐγχειρίδιον. Ἀναπετῶ τουτὶ προσελθὼν κοὐκ ἀνέξομ'
