Τῆς διοπτρικῆς πραγματείας πολλὰς καὶ ἀναγκαίας παρεχομένης χρείας καὶ πολλῶν περὶ αὐτῆς λελεχότων ἀναγκαῖον εἶναι νομίζω τά τε ὑπὸ τῶν πρὸ ἐμοῦ παραλειφθέντα καὶ, ὡς προείρηται, χρείαν παρέχοντα γραφῆς ἀξιῶσαι, τὰ δὲ δυσχερῶς εἰρημένα εἰς εὐχέρειαν μεταγαγεῖν, τὰ δὲ ψευδῶς εἰρημένα εἰς διόρθωσιν προάξαι. οὐχ ἡγοῦμαι δὲ ἀναγκαῖον εἶναι τά τε ἡμαρτημένως καὶ δυσχερῶς ἐκτεθειμένα ἢ καὶ διημαρτημένα ὑπὸ τῶν πρὸ ἡμῶν νῦν εἰς μέσον φέρειν· ἐξέσται γὰρ τοῖς βουλομένοις ἐντυγχάνουσιν κρίνειν τὴν διαφοράν. ἔτι δὲ καὶ ὅσοι ἀναγραφὴν πεποίηνται περὶ τῆς πραγματείας, οὐ διὰ μιᾷ ἢ τῇ αὐτῇ
