Διὰ τί τὰ στρογγύλα ἕλκη δυσαλθέστερα καθέστηκε τῶν ἄλλων; οἱ μὲν οὖν Ἡροφίλειοι τὴν αἰτίαν ἀποδιδόασι, γεωμετρῇ χρώμενοι ἀποδείξει· φασὶ γάρ, ὅτι τὰ κυκλικὰ σχήματα τῶν ἑλκῶν μικρὰ μὲν φαίνεται τῇ περιοχῇ, οὐ τοιαῦτα δ᾽ ἐστίν, ἀλλ᾽ ἔχει τῇ δυνάμει μείζονα τὰ ἐμβαδά, ἤπερ φαίνεται. τὸ μεῖζον δὲ πλείονος χρόνου δεῖται πρὸς τὴν ἐπούλωσιν· ὥστε εἰκότως τὰ τοιαῦτα ἕλκη φαίνεται δυσαλθῆ, εἴ γε καὶ
