Hephaestionis Enchiridion, Leipzig, Teubner, 1906. urn:cts:greekLit:tlg1402.tlg001.local001","excerpt":"(1) Βραχεῖά ἐστι συλλαβὴ ἡ ἔχουσα βραχὺ φωνῆεν ἢ βραχυνόμενον μὴ ἐπὶ τέλους λέξεως, οὕτως ὡς μὴ εἶναι μεταξὺ τούτου τοῦ φωνήεντος καὶ τοῦ ἐν τῇ ἑξῆς συλλαβῇ σύμφωνα πλείονα ἑνὸς ἁπλοῦ, ἀλλ’ ἤτοι ἓν ἢ μηδὲ ἕν. (2) Μακρά ἐστι συλλαβὴ ἡ ἔχουσα μακρὸν φωνῆεν ἢ μηκυνόμενον ἢ μίαν τῶν καλουμένων διφθόγγων, οὕτως ὡς ἑξῆς εἶναι σύμφωνον ἤτοι τελικὸν αὐτῆς τῆς συλλαβῆς ἢ τῆς ἑξῆς ἀρκτικόν [οἷον θ̅η̅ς θ̅ω̅ς ̅κ̅α̅ὶ ̅ν̅α̅ῦ̅ς]. εἰ δὲ μή, οὔκ εἰσιν ἄντικρυς μακραί, ἀλλὰ κοιναί, ὡς ἑξῆς ῥηθήσεται.
