Κατὰ στίχον μὲν ὅσα ὑπὸ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μέτρου καταμετρεῖται, ὡς τὰ Ὁμήρου καὶ τῶν ἐποποιῶν ἔπη· καταχρηστικῶς δὲ κἂν ὑπὸ κώλου ἢ κόμματος, ὡς τὸ Καλλιμάχειον τοῦτο ποιημάτιον (118) ἡ παῖς ἡ κατάκλειστος, τὴν οἵ φασι τεκόντες. καταμετρεῖται γὰρ ὑπὸ κόμματος ἀντισπαστικοῦ, καλουμένου Φερεκρατείου. Συστηματικὰ δὲ ὅσα ὑπὸ πλειόνων μέτρων εἰς ἓν σῶμα παραληφθέντων καταμετρεῖται ἢ συμπληροῦται. Μικτὰ δὲ ὅσα μέρος μέν τι ἔχει ὑπὸ στίχου καταμετρούμενον, μέρος δὲ συστηματικόν.
