Σύστημα δέ ἐστι μέτρων συναγωγή, ἤτοι δύο ἢ πλειόνων, ἢ ὁμοίων ἢ ἀνομοίων· ἀνομοίων μέν, ὡς τὰ ἐλεγεῖα ἑξαμέτρου γάρ ἐστι πρὸς πεντάμετρον κοινωνία· καὶ οἱ ἐπῳδοί· τὸ δὲ ἐξ ὁμοίων, ὡς τὸ δεύτερον Σαπφοῦς, ὡς προϊόντες δείξομεν. Ὄντων δὴ τούτων τῶν ἀνωτάτω γενῶν, κατὰ τὴν τούτων μεῖξιν ὑφίσταται τά τε μεικτὰ γενικὰ προσαγορευόμενα καὶ τὰ κοινὰ συστηματικά.
