Προσήγγελλον δὲ ἑαυτοὺς τοῖς βασιλείοις ἕκαστος, ἐπιτηδεύων ὃ τῷ κρατοῦντι φίλον ἐτύγχανεν: ὁ μὲν, δυσπόριστον ψηφίδα προσφέρων, ἕτερος δὲ λαμπροτέραν βαφὴν ἁλουργίδος ὑποτιθέμενος: ὁ δὲ ποίημα ἢ σύγγραμμα προσφωνῶν: ἄλλος δὲ εὔζωνον καὶ ξένον τὸν περὶ τὰ ὅπλα τρόπον εἰσηγούμενος.
