αὐτοὶ ὑπάρχον- τες ἤρτυον καὶ ἥλιζον πᾶσαν ψυχὴν πιστεύουσαν τῷ ἅλατι τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος. ἔλεγε γὰρ αὐτοῖς ὁ κύριος· «ὑμεῖς ἐστε τὸ ἅλας τῆς γῆς», γῆν τὰς ψυχὰς τῶν ἀνθρώπων καλῶν. διηκόνησαν γὰρ ἐν ταῖς ψυχαῖς τῶν ἀνθρώπων τὸ ἐπουράνιον ἅλας τοῦ πνεύματος, ἀρτύσαντες αὐτοὺς καὶ ἀσήπτους καὶ ἀσινεῖς ἀπεργασάμενοι ἐκ πολλῆς δυσωδίας. ὥσπερ γὰρ κρέας ἐὰν μὴ ἔχῃ ἅλας, σέσηπται καὶ πολλῆς δυσωδίας μεμέστωται, ὥστε πάντας ἀποστρέφεσθαι ἐκ τῆς κακίστης ὀσμῆς, καὶ σκώληκες ἕρ- πουσιν εἰς τὸ σεσηπὸς κρέας καὶ ἐκεῖ ἐννέμονται καὶ ἐσθίουσι καὶ φω- λεύουσιν· ἐπὰν δὲ ἔλθῃ τὸ ἅλας, ἀναιροῦνται καὶ
