Ἀστυάγης δέ φησιν· ὁ δι' Ἥραν ἀκλεὴς γενόμενος, διὰ τὸ μὴ βασιλεῦσαι, ἀλλ' ἀθητεύειν τῷ Εὐρυσθεῖ. καὶ ἡ σύνθεσις τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦτο ἀπαιτεῖ· τὰ γὰρ παρὰ τὴν Ἥραν ὀνόματα σύνθετα διὰ τοῦ ο̅ λέγει· Ἡρόδοτος, Ἡρόδικος. ἔστιν οὖν Ἡρακλῆς ὁ δι' Ἥραν ἀκλεὴς γενόμενος· ἢ ὅτι ἕνα τῶν γιγάντων ἐπερχόμενον ἥρα φονεύσας ὠνομάσθη Ἡρακλῆς· παρὰ τὸ ἀλκεῖν τῇ Ἥρᾳ, Ἡραλκῆς καὶ Ἡρακλῆς. <Ἰξός>.
