Ἐπιζητήσει γὰρ τὸν χρόνον ὃν ἀπώλεσεν ἐν ἀμελείᾳ, καὶ οὐ μὴ εὕρῃ. Κλαύσωμεν τοίνυν ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν, ἵνα εὕρωμεν οἰκτιρμοὺς παρ' αὐτοῦ. Ἕως καιρὸν ἔχομεν, φεισώμεθα ἑαυτοῖς καὶ ἐξευμενησώμεθα τὸν Κύριον. Οὐκ ἔστιν ἡμῖν περὶ χρημάτων ὁ ἀγών, ἃ καὶ ἐάν τις ζημιωθῇ, δύναται ἕτερα ἀντ' αὐτῶν πάλιν κτήσασθαι. Περὶ ψυχῆς ὁ κίνδυνος, ἣν ἐὰν ἀπολέσωμεν, οὐκέτι ἀνακαλέσασθαι δυνάμεθα· κατὰ τὸ γεγραμμένον, τί ὠφεληθήσεται ἄνθρωπος, ὅταν τὸν κόσμον ὅλον κερδήσῃ, τὴν δὲ ψυχὴν αὑ- τοῦ ζημιωθῇ; Ἢ τί δώσει ἄνθρωπος ἀντάλλαγμα τῆς ψυχῆς αὑτοῦ; Μέλλει γὰρ ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐλθεῖν ἐν τῇ δόξῃ αὑτοῦ, καὶ τότε ἀποδώσει ἑκά- στῳ κατὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ.
