Ἡμᾶς δὲ δεῖ τὸν τῆς δημιουργίας λόγον ἀναλαβόντας θαυμάζειν μὲν τὰ γεγενημένα, προσκυνεῖν δὲ τὸν τεχνίτην. Οὐ γὰρ ἐγράφη ταῦτα, ἵνα μάθωμεν ὅτι γέγονε μόνον, ἀλλὰ καὶ θαυμάσωμεν τὸν ποιήσαντα. Εἴρηται ὅτι τῇ πρώτῃ τὰς ὕλας τῶν κτισμάτων παρήγαγε, τῇ δευτέρᾳ πῶς τὸ στερέωμα ἐξ ἠραιωμένης φύσεως τῶν ὑδάτων συνεστήσατο καὶ διὰ τοῦτο στερέωμα ἐκλήθη. Διὰ τοῦτο δὲ καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς τὴν οἰκουμένην πᾶσαν ἐξηραιωμένην καὶ κεχαυνωμένην, διαφόροις πολυθέου πλάνης ὕλαις ἐσκορπισμένην συνήγαγε καὶ μίαν ἐποίησε πίστιν καὶ καλεῖ αὐτὴν ὁ ἀπόστολος στερέωμα λέγων· Κατὰ τὸ στερέωμα τῆς εἰς τὸν Χριστὸν πίστεως.
