Οὐ γάρ ἐστι ταραχὴ θόρυβον γεννῶσα, ἀλλὰ θλῖψις δικαιοσύνης στέφανον πλέκουσα. Μακαρίζω τὴν καλὴν ὑμῶν προθυμίαν, δι’ ἣν πάντα πόνον ὑφίστασθε τῆς θείας ἀκροπόλεως ἐξηρτημένοι. Ἀλλ’ ὥσπερ τοῦτον θαυμάζω τὸν ζῆλον, οὕτως ἀποστρέφομαι τὸν περὶ τὰ μάταια πόνον. Χθὲς γὰρ ἡμῖν οὗτος ὁ ἱερὸς σύλλογος ἐσυλεῖτο, καὶ ἀντὶ τοῦ θείου τούτου καὶ μακαρίου σταδίου ἱππόδρομος τὸν λαὸν ἐδέξατο. Καὶ ἐθαύμασα πῶς ἵππων ἅμιλλαν ἐζητήσατε, θείου λόγου ἅμιλλαν καταλιπόντες. Ἐκεῖ μὲν γὰρ ἦν ἰδεῖν ἵππων δρόμον, ἐνταῦθα δὲ ἅρμα θεοῦ μυριοπλάσιον, ἐν ᾧ χιλιάδες εὐθυνούντων . Ἐκεῖ ἦν ἰδεῖν ἀγῶνα καὶ δρόμον καὶ ἔριν, ἐνταῦθα πόθον καὶ ζῆλον καὶ προθυμίαν.
