Αὗται γὰρ εἰς τὰς ἡμετέρας χωροῦσι ψυχάς, καὶ ὡς ὄμβρος ἐπ’ ἄγρωστιν καὶ ὡσεὶ νιφετὸς ἐπὶ χόρτον , αἱ θεῖαι νιφάδες, καὶ ἀρδεύουσιν ἡμᾶς καὶ λευκαίνουσιν. Ἀρδεύουσι μὲν πρὸς τοὺς καρποὺς τῆς εὐσεβείας, λευκαίνουσι δὲ καθαίρουσαι τὸν ῥύπον τῆς ἁμαρτίας· ὁ γὰρ τῷ θείῳ λόγῳ πλυνόμενος χιόνος λευκότερος ἀναδείκνυται κατὰ τὸ τῷ Δαυὶδ εἰρημένον· Πλυνεῖς με, καὶ ὑπὲρ χιόνα λευκανθήσομαι . Λευκαίνεται δὲ ἡμῶν ἡ ψυχὴ τοῖς τε θείοις δόγμασι καὶ τοῖς ἠθικοῖς παραγγέλμασι· δεῖ γὰρ προηγεῖσθαι τὴν πίστιν τὴν φωτίζουσαν ἡμῶν τὴν διάνοιαν, καὶ ἀκολουθεῖν ἔργα τὰ λαμπρύνοντα τὴν ψυχήν.
